Anniversary Trip to Salida
We celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary on 9/27/18. Our actual anniversary day was spent doing real married stuff. This year, it meant unpacking and moving into our new home after a busy day of work and childcare. We had a romantic dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Berthoud where Colton ate an incredible amount of chips and salsa and Mike and I inhaled our food so we could be ready to leave when the chip novelty wore off.
For the inquiring minds, chip novelty lasts about 10 minutes. Next comes the novelty of pouring salt everywhere, and then playing tug-of-war with the silverware. In total, we have about 20 minutes at the restaurant.
We love our new house. It’s a new house in a new neighborhood. This means fewer house projects and more time for hiking, camping, workshop, cousin time…..and on. Berthoud is growing extremely fast and is a far cry from the small farming community north of Longmont where I grew up. My parents actually lived in an old victorian in downtown Berthoud before I was born. I believe they bought it for $11,000. We hope the area will be a great fit for our family.
On Saturday, we packed the car and drove to Salida, the spot where we were married. The drive is gorgeous and relaxing. Well, a little less relaxed this time as Colton is now sitting forward facing and is so so chatty! His vocabulary is growing every day and likes to page through his dictionary of words while driving. “Tractor! Tree! Sky! Blue! Car! Mama! Dada! Mama. Mama. Mom. Dad. Dada. Dad. Mike!” We stopped at Tiny Town for a little sanity break.
The aspen leaves had mostly dropped at the top of Kenosha Pass, but were still a vibrant yellow in Salida and at our wedding spot. I feel fortunate to be able to easily go back to the place where Mike and I married. When we arrived in the national forest, all of the memories of our wedding came flooding back. I can remember the fluttery feeling when walking down the path with my dad and seeing my handsome husband in a purple tie standing in front of the aspen trees. I remembered the beautiful music played by Jerry and how I felt so loved and supported by our families. I remembered the surprise of a shower of golden aspen leaves, thrown in the air by our guests, as we walked down the forest aisle as husband and wife.
Colton was happily entertaining himself with piking up sticks while Mike and I shared a moment of togetherness.
So enjoy these posts and love the pictures! Colton is getting so big. Give him a squeeze for me!
