Camping in March: Are we insane?! ….or did we buy a trailer?
That’s right folks, WE BOUGHT A CAMPING TRAILER!
Mike picked up our 2018 Outdoors RV Black Rock 23BKS in Spokane, Washington two months ago on a very long weekend of driving. Seriously long. He drove 2,100 miles in 3 days. We’ve been itching to take the new trailer out and finally had the chance as we are now one week into Spring. Our trailer is built for 4-seasons use and fully insulated, so the cold weather wasn’t a big deterrent, but we were worried about driving in the snow and entertaining a very busy toddler in potentially very confined quarters. Not my picture of a relaxing weekend. Also, Mike has been working on some really great upgrades to the electrical, getting our solar panels placed, and general new owner maintenance on the Beast.
The day of the maiden voyage finally arrived! Although it had snowed the night before, we were determined to try out the trailer. We drove up to Horsetooth Reservoir above Ft. Collins. It’s only about a 40 minute drive and a is beautiful 6.5 mile reservoir. The highs for Saturday were in the low 40s with frost over night and we were tooooasty warm! When we arrived at the site, I fixed us some steamy cups of hot coco and cider and we took a stroll around the area. When it got cold, we just hopped back into the cozy warm trailer and defrosted a bit. By late afternoon, the sun peeked through the clouds. We ate dinner outside by the campfire and roasted a few smores. Sunday morning was warm enough for a morning hike and rock throwing (Colton’s favorite activity). I can sure get used to the travel trailer life!!
March is the earliest I’ve ever camped and it was luxurious. Plenty of space to hang out inside. Colton LOVES his new bunk bed and we have a queen bed in a semi-private area. The bunks are full-sized beds and easily fit 2 people (i.e. Colton and Carly) for a night of snuggling. :-/ He was a little nervous to sleep on his own and has been fighting a cold, so we were cuddle buddies. Still so much room for a comfortable night of sleep for all 3 of us! 5 stars for our new trailer!! Thanks to Mike for doing an exhaustive amount of research to find the perfect one for our family and for masterminding all of the modifications. Mike is also incredibly good at maneuvering our big Beast.
In two weeks, we take our rig to Texas and New Mexico for 10 days of camping.
