Nearly Missed –> Persist!
- Summer of 2018 has been full of change for the Hesters. We completed renovation then sold our house in the country. In July, we moved in to the
Block Bunk House (my parents’ house) while looking for a new place. At the end of August, we went under contract for a house in north Berthoud and we close at the end of September. Whew!!! I have to catch my breath just writing about all of the action that has taken place. Longmont has brought us some much welcomed respite. Without the stress of the chores we needed to do at the old house, we can focus on our wants. For the past two weekends, we’ve wanted to camp, camp, camp!
Last weekend, Colton’s second taste of camping was nearly thwarted by our adventurous decision to “just find a spot” in Wyoming. What actually happened was a lot of mis-adventuring in the wrong mountains because after 7 hours of driving through the hills of Routt National Forest, we couldn’t find anywhere to camp. There just weren’t any sites along the logging/ATV rec area that we wound up. The further we drove, the more the forest turned into a pre-burned pile of fallen trees. It wasn’t pretty….and full of cow pies. Mike and I were officially declaring this a CAMPING ADVENTURE BUST and headed back to Longmont. On the way back, we decided to check out a tried and true spot that we’ve camped a dozen times before. We arrived at our Hail Mary camping site around 7 pm and <<<cue the crescendo drumroll>>>> AHHH!! The spot. Our spot was empty.
It was the hour of magic and our camping spot couldn’t have looked more beautiful.
Maybe we were being taught a lesson in persistence. We drove many hours along bumpy roads always hopeful for a beautiful spot in nature to camp and explore with Colton. The only reason we now hold these great camping memories is because we persisted.
It’s always an adventure with the Hesters. We are so happy to have them on this side of the metro area!,,
So fun! Thank you for sharing! Three amazing people.
